How we list places
Last updated
Volio's places pages list cafés, restaurants and bars so guests can find them, and so their owners can claim them. This notice says what we list, where it comes from, why, and how to take a listing off.
What we list
Every restaurant, café, bar, pub, fast food, beach bar, ice cream, and food court OpenStreetMap knows of in 3 countries (United Kingdom, Ireland, and Greece), and only what OpenStreetMap says about it: its name, its kind, its address, its opening hours, its phone number and its website. Where OpenStreetMap says so, also its cuisine and whether it has outdoor seats, step-free access, takeaway or vegetarian dishes.
We add nothing about people. There are no reviews and no ratings, and we don't track the places we list or the people who run them.
Where it comes from
The listings come from © OpenStreetMap contributors, under the Open Database Licence. We refresh them once a month. A place that leaves OpenStreetMap leaves our pages at the next refresh.
The directory is open data under the same licence. Download it, one file a country:
- United Kingdom (CSV, gzipped)
- Ireland (CSV, gzipped)
- Greece (CSV, gzipped)
Why we list them
Guests look for somewhere to eat or drink; owners want their place found, and can claim it here to start Volio from its listing. That is our legitimate interest, and the reason we show these listings. Some places are run by one person under their own name, so a listing can be personal data. We keep it to what the place itself has made public on OpenStreetMap.
Remove or correct a listing
Every place page has a link: Remove or correct this listing. You don't need an account or a reason.
- Remove: the page comes off the site at once, leaves our sitemaps and open data, and stays off when we refresh the list from OpenStreetMap.
- Correct: a person at Volio reads what you sent and fixes the listing. What you send to correct it may be published under the Open Database Licence.
Or write to hello@usevolio.com.
Owners: claim your place
On your place's page, tap Claim it. We send a code to the phone or the website on the listing, or a person at Volio checks it. Once it's yours, you pick a plan, and your venue on Volio starts from the listing: where it is, its kind, its hours.
Who we are, and where to complain
Volio, Greece, decides how these listings are used. Our privacy notice covers the rest of the site. If you think we've got it wrong, tell us first; you can also complain to your data protection authority:
- United Kingdom: the Information Commissioner's Office.
- Ireland: the Data Protection Commission.
- Greece: the Hellenic Data Protection Authority.
